These appear to be old tin type photos.

James Loving Daves and Margaret Carter were the second couple to buy a license in newly organized Palo Pinto County and their son, Woodbury Daves, was the first child born to a couple that married in the newly organized county.  His birth date was January 14, 1859.

Mr. Daves was born in Mississippi in 1819 and came to Palo Pinto County in 1856, settling north of Gordon on Palo Pinto Creek and lived there until 1871 when he moved east of Santo.  He was a Texas Ranger and served under Sul Ross.  He was a Baptist and he died in 1882 and was buried in East Santo Cemetery.

Mrs. Daves, a native of Arkansas, came to Texas with her parents in 1856 and they settled north of where Gordon now is at a place known as Carter's Branch.  Her family lost many horses and cattle in the early days but no member was killed.  She also was a Baptist and she died in 1912 at the age of 68.

Woodbury Daves, the son born in the new county, married Abbie Louise Bearden, a native of Georgia.  Mr. Daves died in 1928.

Other children of the James Loving Daves were Green Daves, who died in 1935; Becky Daves Bearden, Mary Josephine Daves Newberry, Ben Daves, Altus Daves, Viola Daves Stokes, Jim Daves, Lem Daves and Pernie Daves Bearden.

Grandchildren of the pioneer couple are Margaret (Mrs. J. L.) Whitley, M. W. Daves, J. M. Daves, H. H. Newberry and Lula Steen all of whom live in Palo Pinto County.
